Kill Reporting

I have had a few concerns about the website for kill reporting (http://zombie2009.no-ip.org/ user: zombieuser pass bates2009) so I am posting here to give a better explanation of the list. It's not made to be a formal tracker and almost nothing on it is automated, the two buttons are there to allow people to help me keep the list up to date, but the majority of the list is just me keeping track of the game. Therefore if you are having trouble with the website don't worry about your kills being null or your 36 hour time limit being in jeopardy, just post a comment somewhere on the blog (here's perfectly acceptable) or send an e-mail to bateszombiechallenge@gmail.com and the site will be updated as soon as I can get to it.

In regards to the 36 hour starvation period, this is done by the honor system, while I do have a rough idea about how long most of the zombies have been alive, for the most part I don't plan to actively enforce this rule unless it becomes a problem. Therefore you don't have to worry about making sure your kills are registered exactly right on the website.

Sign-ups for 2009

Sign-ups are now starting online, to sign up just go to http://zombie2009.no-ip.org/, the user is zombieuser and the password is bates2009. If it doesn't load initially try refreshing the page.

We are also going to be showing a zombie movie in the Ronj Sunday night, May 10th at 10:00pm to kick off the start of the game on Monday at 12:00am.

Also you can pick up your bands from the people tabeling, at the movie, or on Saturday we will leave some bands in a shoebox in the coatroom of commons if you haven't gotten yours yet.

For this season of zombies we are hopefully going to have an automated system for sign-ups and kill reporting/tracking. Still making sure all the kinks are out of the system before putting it online, which should happen in the next few days and you will be able to find the link here. Until then if you are afraid you will forget to sign-up feel free to comment your name and e-mail here and I will add you to the system once it's online.

Humans die off...

The last surviving humans made a mad dash across campus today towards the rescue chopper. Unfortunately, the zombie infestation proved too much, and the humans were all ambushed and killed just minutes before the chopper arrival. Congratulations zombies on a well fought battle!

DOOMS DAY!! the end has come.

The World Health Organization is sending a rescue team to retrieve the surviving Humans of Bates College, ending the zombie attacks on Bates for good.

In preparation for the arrival, there will be a CEASEFIRE between zombies and humans Friday 12pm-1pm. No Zombies can tag humans, no humans can stun zombies. Humans, your objective will be to get to rescue team.

Humans meet on Hathorn Steps at 12:45 pm for your instructions for salvation!

Zombies meet at 12:45pm at Bardwell Field (grassy area next to the football field, in front of to Smith) for organized BRAINS!

More details will be explained to both groups after meeting in their respective locations.

All humans that manage to complete the mission will be survivors, anyone who does not will be left behind to the zombie horde. Zombies, if you manage to keep enough humans from reaching the chopper then you will win bragging rights for yourselves.

The UHF emerged victorious from the maze of Pettengrew this evening after a long struggle against the zombie horde. Their successful acquisition of the animal containing the mutant strain has kept the zombies from gaining a 12 hour starvation time increase, and has made the QUAD A SAFE ZONE TOMORROW from sunrise to sunset. The quad means the entire area from Hathorn step to the street, and from Carnegie to the street next to the Chapel.

Congrats humans, and be on the lookout for the next mission!

Mission Tonight

The first mission will be happening tonight. E-mails were sent to all zombies and humans, but I have some errors in e-mail addresses, so if you didn't get a copy and want one please post a comment or e-mail bateszombiechallenge@gmail.com. For this mission to be a success we are going to need cooperation, so please remember rule #7 and hopefully this will be a good time for everyone involved.

Welcome to Zombies vs. Humans!
Please note that until the game officially starts the rules are not finalized and may be subject to change, so please check back around the start.

Objective:
Humans: Survive as long as you can. Keep the Human Race alive until the end of the game.

Zombies: Survive as long as you can... By eating humans!! Devour the Human Race by the end of the game.

Rules:
1) Each team has a marker: Members of the United Human Forces (UHF) wear Red bands; the Zombie Horde wears Yellow bands. The band must be present on your arm at all times for both teams.

2) Zombies devour humans by tagging them firmly. If a Human is tagged by a Zombie they die and slowly turn undead over the course of an hour. After that time they switch bands and can begin to feed.

3) Humans cannot kill Zombies (generally), but they can stun them.
Their weapons are:
Socks: Of all types, i.e. balled-up socks, socks-in-socks (aka sock whip), anything you can do with only a sock... and tape. Nothing wrapped in socks is allowed-i.e. sock armor, sock covered axes, etc.
Nerf guns: All types of Nerf Guns that do not hurt the target, and are blatantly toy weapons. Please use these respectfully, not wantonly.

4) A stunned Zombie is a useless Zombie: that Zombie is completely out of the game for those 15 minutes and cannot interfere in any way (i.e. holding a human, blocking passages, etc.)

5) Zombies must eat at least one Humand in a 36 hour period, or they will starve and die. If a zombie does not feed within 36 hours of its last kill, it will, finally, die. Kills can be shared between Zombies, but only if the Zombies involved in the kill are included in the report (see below).

6) Is there anywhere a Human is safe from the Zombie hordes? Yes. The following are places where the game cannot be continued:
Anywhere where attendance is required: class, sports games (if you are participating), clubs, jobs, campus tours, etc.
The entire new Commons building
All academic buildings from 9:00-5:00 including Pettigrew, Pettingill, Carnegie, Dana, Olin, Hathorn.
All administrative buildings: Lane Hall, Libby Forum, Admissions
YOUR dorm room
Library
Cars (at any time, but don't hide in some random car)
Bathrooms are technically not safe, but under the "don't be a jerk" rule, tagging someone any other time then walking in or walking out of the bathroom is off-limits. Basically, you still have to be on your guard, but you can take a piss/shower/etc. without having to defend yourself.

7) The spirit of the game is in comradery, team play, and fun. To that effect: Don't be a jerk!

8) Periodically, the coordinator (the wise and noble Jake) will send out information concerning Missions, either for the UHF , the Horde, or even both teams. These will specify information, objectives, conditions of failure, and all other missiony specifics. These will be distributed via e-mail or possibly the Zombie Blog. Be on the lookout for these notifications-they are of utmost importance!

9) Bates has been quarantined by the International Community; as such anyone playing the game is prohibited from taking refuge outside of Bates campus. If any player is off-campus for more than 24 consecutive hours, they have been rescued from the virus by the World Health Organization, and can no longer play.

10) Zombies have poor motor skills, and as such they must be on foot to make a kill. No car/bike/skateboard/jetpack use is allowed.

Registering/Sign-up:
The current registration schedule is tabling for sign-ups on Friday the 25th and Sunday the 27th, the first week back from break. At the table will be the zombie and human bands that you can pick up. You can also sign up at any time be sending an e-mail to BatesZombieChallenge@gmail.com or posting a comment in the sign-up section of this blog. If you sign up online make sure to stop by to pick up the bands.

Kill reporting:
Once the game starts kills can be reported in the kills sectio of this blog. You should include your name, your victim's name, and the names of anyone else who shared in the consumption of their flesh/brains. Kills can also be reported via e-mail at BatesZombieChallenge@gmail.com.

Grounds for Disqualification:
1) Being a jerk(decided by the coordinator)
2) Weapon jackassery: Using non-approved/dangerous weapons, using socks with things other than sock within them (i.e. tennis balls, weights, etc.), shooting people with your Nerf Gun who aren't in the game and being disrespectful with you Nerf Gun. Please, be discreet with them.
3) Inappropriate behavior.
4) Cheating of any sort.
5) Involving people in the game who are not registered.
